Common questions

Why is Coverage partial? LiveTree reports what it could actually read. macOS privacy controls, permissions, or an unavailable volume can leave parts of an authorized root unreadable. The Coverage view explains observed gaps instead of presenting an incomplete total as complete.

How do I prevent changes? Turn on Read-Only Mode in Settings → Safety. It blocks filesystem-changing actions while you investigate. Moving to Trash is the ordinary cleanup path; permanent deletion is separate and requires another confirmation.

Why can’t I scan a folder? In the Mac App Store edition, choose the location through LiveTree's macOS picker. If a remembered location was revoked or a volume was ejected, select it again. The Direct edition may also need a macOS privacy permission for protected locations.

What does Verified Duplicates do? It compares file contents before reporting matches. The analysis reads candidate files but does not delete them automatically.

Can I inspect or disable analytics? Yes. Open Settings → Advanced → Privacy & Diagnostics to see exact local payloads and turn collection off persistently. Read the privacy policy for details.

Why is a feature missing? The Mac App Store edition does not include the command-line tool, Finder-integrated compression, or local Time Machine restore-point deletion. These are Direct edition features.
